Most small sites could be static

Fewer moving parts, fewer late-night fixes.

Many small business sites run on a full content management system with a database, a dozen plugins and weekly security updates. Most of them change a few times a year.

A static site generated from plain files is faster, cheaper to host and has almost nothing to break. Contact forms and analytics work just as well through small external services.

The trade-off is editing: someone has to be comfortable changing a text file instead of clicking in an admin panel. For many teams that is a smaller price than it sounds.

This site, for example, is a handful of HTML files and one stylesheet.
